||Jane Arden was born in England, spent her childhood in Hong Kong, and returned to Britain to train at the Theatre Arts School in Sussex. After her first Shakespeare role as Jessica in The Merchant of Venice, she became a founding member of the British Actors Theatre Company, a group democratically directed by the actors themselves, and toured as Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew, Celia in As You Like It, and Hoyden in Vanbrugh's The Relapse. For the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park she played Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Perdita in The Winter's Tale. She has had extensive experience in musicals (including The King and I, directed by James Hammerstein, Gershwin's Lady Be Good, and Gypsy), farce, and television, has worked with Daniel Travanti in Les Liaisons Dangereuses (which played in London's West End and toured Europe and South Africa), and has played in Private Lives, Little Eyolf, and several Alan Ayckbourn plays. Her television credits include The Strauss Dynasty, about the life of Johann Strauss, and Lost Empires. Ms. Arden is an Associate Director of Actors From The London Stage. She has appeared in five tours, playing Celia-Phebe-Amiens in As You Like It, Miranda-Ariel in The Tempest, Juliet-Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, Portia-Solanio in The Merchant of Venice, and Lady Macbeth in the most recent production of Macbeth.
